Off-road Fog Lights – Do You Need Them?

Off-road Fog Lights – Do You Need Them?

The fog lights are not the most popular auto body parts around. However, they are still necessary and are quite helpful during heavy fogs. This is why you should always keep an eye out for them and make sure that they are working. Often you may forget to check on them, since they are not commonly used and when you finally need them, something may be wrong with them.

But what if you actually do use them quite frequently? What if you are an off-road driver who has a bit of trouble on the trails and all of that happens because of lighting? Actually that is quite the possible scenario.

If you are out in the open you are much more likely to encounter mists and fogs. They happen because of the fairly easy temperature shifts at higher altitudes and rougher terrain. Morning or evening mists are not at all uncommon and if you are not prepared, you may be in for a bad time. Today we will look what off-road fog lights are and how they can actually be extremely helpful.

What Are Off-road Fog Lights?

Your regular fog lights sit at the bottom portion of your vehicle and aim to light the road ahead in such a way that the light does not bounce from the tiny water particles straight into your eyes (as it would with regular headlights). This reduces the blinding effect you can get otherwise. However, these fog lights are not as strong and may not be enough for your off-roading needs.

Off-road fog lights on the other hand are a special kind of lamp that is designed to attach pretty much anywhere on your vehicle. You can easily mount it to the hood, or as it is more common – on the roof. You can also install them on the A-pillars for easier access.

These fog lights can be extremely bright. However, their idea is not to light up the road too far ahead, but rather what is in the much more immediate distance. This will help you see more clearly and avoid eventual bad bumps or holes.

What Are The Benefits Of Off-road Fog Lights?

We have already mentioned one of their key points – they are bright. However, you can also stack a lot of them together and make them even brighter. The ability to move them and reposition them is also nice, but the main benefit comes when you have direct access to them. That means that such lights are best mounted on the A-pillars and the front of the roof. Why though?

Well, imagine that you are on quite the unpredictable terrain and you want to make a turn. Sadly, the lights don’t shine on the side of the vehicle. Well, with moveable fog lights, you can actually help yourself a little bit. You can also light up a greater portion of the road ahead or focus the beams on the much closer ground.

Granted all these things will be pointless if you are not an off-road driver, but it is still good to know a thing or two about off-road fog lights. Who knows, maybe one day you will hit the off-road as well!
